A Few Do's And Don'ts When Working With The Coverups
Our reputation is our business so it’s important that we strive for consistency at every event we play at. If you are new working with The CoverUps, please read over a few of our expectations for each gig.
Dress Code
Band will be in black shirts, black trousers, black shoes. As a singer you need to wear a white shirt instead to make you stand out. You can wear a black tie as well if you like.
Tuning And Keys
We perform live with guitars tuned down a semi-tone. As such, when you see a key of E on the set list, it will sound in Eb despite playing in the usual E position. The keys referred to on set lists and such will always refer to the position on the guitar neck, rather than the key as it will sound on the night. With rare exception we play in the key of the original tracks.
In-ear Monitoring
You will need to bring some in-ear headphones as we don’t have any wedges on stage as foldback. There will be a wired or wireless connections available, but if you have your own, please bring that along and just connect it to the desk.
Self Mixing
Your personal monitor mix is controllable through an app.
On our A-rig, this is called QU-You (iOS or Android). With the B-rig you’ll need the Mackie master Fader App (iOS only).
On the gig you’ll connect to our mixer’s wifi: CoverArt, sue&hannah
Invoicing
When the gig is done you need to send your invoice to accounts@thecoverups.co.uk – include your travel expenses on that. Travel is payable at 25p/mile if you’re on your own, or 30p/mile with a passenger.
Setting Up
During set-up and pack-down we all muck in. Once you’ve got your own gear in place lend a hand with the front of house or lights. If you’re not sure ask – there’s always cases to clear up which can really help alleviate the time pressure around sound check.
Because of the kinds of functions we’re playing we do our best to set up quietly. Getting guitar/drum sounds obviously needs to be done at volume, so please be ready to dial these in quickly during the sound check, rather than doing so while the rest of the band are still setting up.
Backing Tracks
There are backing tracks for some of the songs which have sections cues and a metronome which you will only hear in your ears. These can be found to practice with in link in the email with the gig details.
