Saturday’s wedding saw us return to Lainston Country House Hote in Winchester. It’s been several years since we played the Wood’s wedding at the venue, but the venue’s going strong as ever!
Earlier in the day, band leader Mike had had a call from Gaz (lead guitar) – and it wasn’t good news. Gaz had unfortunately been taken ill, and a substitution was required. Fortunately we’re well prepared for such eventualities with our other regular guitarist Steve on hand and ready to step in last minute.
On arrival we were ushered through to the bar where we ordered our food. After 2 hours on the road we were all about the buger and chips. While not massive portions, it was certainly one of the best burgers we’ve had this season, and plenty to spur us onto our first energetic set.
First dance was Elton John’s Your Song performed live by the band and the bride and groom seemed to enjoy every moment of it.
Rocking at Low Volume!
Lainston Country House Hotel has something of a stringent sound limitation, but with the help of wonderfully sensitive drumming from Andy we were able to give it exactly the required level of rock and roll.
Highlights of the evening included a lively rendition of Don’t Stop Me Now and classic end of wedding Proclaimers with 500 miles.
A couple of weeks quiet now to prepare a few new surprises before our next wedding!
