Rocking In Silence At Blackwell Grange

Silent Disco Band Blackwell Grange Shipston On Stour Cotswolds Wedding

One of our brand new local favourite wedding venues is the delightful Blackwell Grange in Shipston-On-Stour. A modern, elegantly converted barn with glorious views and surroundings – it’s an idyllic setting for a beautiful wedding celebration.

Shhh…

In over a decade performing an eclectic mix of venues across the length and breadth of the UK we’ve worked with all manner of requirements from venues, couples, wedding planners – you name it! A common one is to work alongside a sound limiter. It’s always our goal to give the bride and groom the best night possible, and that means giving them something to dance to!

Working with a sound limiter is a skill, but one all our musicians are talented enough to pull off without anyone noticing. A sound limiter is so low that the audience singing along sets it off sounds like a deal break, right? If the audience are going to cut the band’s power, it doesn’t matter how quietly they play… does it?!

The Sound Of Silence

In order to keep our on stage sound to a minimum, the band always use in ear monitors – headphones that play what each musician needs to hear. Given that, it’s a small step – if quite a technical and complex one – to give the whole audience headphones they can crank as loud as they like. All of a sudden the room is all but silent with a dance floor full of people rocking out like they’re at an arena gig!

Rockabye Baby

A wonderful night was had by all and, importantly for Blackwell Grange, there were no complaints from the neighbours. It’s such fun being part of a night like this, using our experience to turn an otherwise potentially disappointing night into an amazing night of celebration. We’re looking forward to returning!

Friends In The Industry

Being in the wedding industry for over 10 years now, sometimes the band get lucky enough work with friends on a wedding day!

Last week the band visited one of the West Midland’s best wedding venues, Compton Verney, in Warwick, for Kate and Westley’s Christmas wedding. Our friend and wedding photographer, Hannah K. Photography, was working hard documenting the bride and groom’s big day and our 4-piece male lead lineup got to play live music in the evening. The dance floor was packed for both the band’s sets which always makes for a great night. The bride and groom and their wedding guests even carried on after the band had left! What a fantastic wedding!

To see photos from Kate and Westley’s wedding day visit facebook.com/hannahkphoto or keep an eye on Hannah’s blog hannahkphotography.co.uk/blog for her full re-cap of the day!

September Recap!

This September The CoverUps played live music for several weddings, a 21-st birthday party and a corporate event. It was definitely a busy month for this Coventry based function band!

Beautiful Barn Wedding In Worcestershire

Our first event of the month saw the band at Curradine Barns for Laura and Sarah’s wedding reception. The CoverUps enjoyed returning to this beautiful barn wedding venue located in the small village of Shrawley in Worcestershire. With 3 x 45 minute sets and plenty of requests by the brides we had a set list full of fun favourites that kept the dance floor full all night long! The band even changed the words to Moves Like Jagger to ‘Moves Like Hannah’ at the request of the brides. Everyone loved it!

5-Piece Wedding Band In Worcester

It was a double header weekend for the band as the next day we arrived at Orchard Manor in Worcester for Claire and Kush’s wedding day. This was a special one as the band played for Claire’s 21st birthday party and now it was her wedding day! I suppose having been a band for over a decade it was only a matter of time before this would happen! With our 5-piece lineup, Claire and Kush had a set list full of both male and female lead tracks including Only Girl In The World by Rihanna and Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. It was a brilliant night all in all.

A Happy Wedding Day In Surrey

Our next wedding brought the band to Nonsuch Mansion in Sutton, Surrey as a 5-piece lineup. The bride and groom picked Happy by Pharrell Williams for their first dance and the cover went down a treat. Soon after, guests joined the happy couple (pun intended!) on the dance floor for a night of Queen, Michael Jackson, The White Stripes, Spin Doctors and other classic rock covers! Christen and Mike on lead vocals did a wicked job covering these mega records.

21st Birthday Party Black Tie Style

The band was then booked to play live music for Tom and Harry’s joint 21st birthday party in Sheepwash, Melton Mowbray– a black tie event to say the least! With our 5-piece band, the birthday boys had a set list containing all their favourite songs. A youthful crowd kept the dance floor packed well into the night. Great energy, great party. We will never forget it!

Corporate Event In Harrogate

The CoverUps also visited Harrogate International Centre for Infection Prevention Society’s corporate event. Harrogate International Centre is a conference and exhibition building with a 2,000 seat auditorium and plenty of meeting spaces for events such as this one. With over a 2.5-hour drive, the venue wasn’t necessarily local for our West Midlands based musicians, but the travel was straightforward and the night went without a hitch.

Marquee Wedding In Swindon

To tie our September wedding season to a close we performed at the Evans’ marquee wedding at Manor Farm in Swindon. The bride and groom sent the band a list of their favourite songs before the big day. Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus and Johnny B Goode were amongst other chosen tracks. We had a great time playing these song requests to a packed dance floor and everyone enjoying themselves. The CoverUps wrapped it up with Wonderwall by Oasis, also requested by the bride and groom, and we couldn’t have imagined a better tune to end the night on a real high.

The CoverUps 5-Piece Wedding Band In Harbury

Tonight was Richard and Julie’s wedding day at Harbury Village Hall. The CoverUps enjoyed returning to the small town of Harbury, located in Stratford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, and it was nice to play at a wedding venue just down the road from the band’s HQ in Coventry. The bride and groom booked The CoverUps 5-piece band to perform live music at their evening wedding reception. With both a male and female lead vocalist, the band played a wide range of songs from 50s-10s. There was definitely a favourite feel for everyone!

Soulful First Dance Song

The bride and groom requested The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack to be played live for their first dance. What a gorgeous 1960s classic soul song! The CoverUps female lead vocalist, Christen, executed a wonderful cover on the night and really did the song justice.

A Set List Chock-Full Of Favourites

The band kicked off the night with Price Tag by Jessie J and Marry You by Bruno Mars immediately following their first dance. Guests joined the bride and groom on the dance floor and the night was surely off to a great start!

To follow Bruno Mars, the band threw in a few old time bests- You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon and Take On Me by Aha. Not to forget modern female-lead pop songs including California Gurls by Katy Perry and Call Me Maybe Carly Rae Jepsen. Our set list was chock-full of favourite classics and latest hot hits and it was great to see Richard, Julie and their guests really enjoying the mix on the dance floor and dancing well into the night!

Marquee Wedding At Tiltridge Farm

Our final wedding of July this year saw The CoverUps 4-piece band at Tiltridge Farm for Davina and Tom’s big day! The band arrived at the farm located just outside Worcester, about an hour and twenty minutes from the band’s HQ in Coventry, to see a magnificent marquee set on the gorgeous grounds of a private home.

After a quick load in around the back of the marquee, the band set the stage in time for the bride and groom’s first dance. The original recorded track of Baby I’m Yours by Arctic Monkeys was the newlyweds first dance choice which we played through our PA. What a brilliant track to start the night!

Soon after, guests joined the happy couple on the dance floor and we turned up the notch with Stuck In The Middle With You by Stealers Wheel and Marry You by Bruno Mars. We finished our first set with the guests egging the band on for more. Luckily Davina and Tom had arranged for traditional Albanian music to be played during the interval which kept the party going- to say the very least! The CoverUps have performed as a live wedding band for over a decade and this was still a first for us!

The night carried on with high energy and a packed dance floor. Our third and final set finished with Don’t Look Back In Anger by Oasis as requested by the bride and groom. It proved to be the perfect tune to end the night.

Congratulations to Davina and Tom! We hope you enjoyed the night even more than The CoverUps did!

Elvetham Hotel Wedding In July

Nearing the end of our July 2016 wedding season, The CoverUps arrived at Elvetham Hotel in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire to play live music for Fiona and Andy’s wedding day. The band have played at Elvetham Hotel once before so it was a pleasure to return this year! Much more than a hotel, this wedding venue is a 16th-century mansion with converted stables and an elegant interior perfectly suitable for wedding celebrations. A very popular Hampshire wedding venue located between Basingstoke and Woking, it’s no surprise it was Fiona and Andy’s first choice for their big day.

The CoverUps 4-piece band were booked to play for 2 hours during the wedding reception. We started the night playing the recorded Ed Sheeran track, Thinking Out Loud, through our PA at the request of the bride and groom. It proved to be the perfect start to the night!

Soon enough guests were encouraged onto the dance floor and the night was off to a great start with Stuck In The Middle With You by Steelers Wheel and Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen. A few other favourite hits of the night included Hard Day’s Night by The Beatles and Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones. You can’t deny the classics!

What’s better than playing to a full dance floor with guests drinking, dancing and enjoying themselves? Ending the night on Rule The World by Take That! The track was requested by the newlyweds especially and we couldn’t have ended the night on a better note!

Congratulations to Fiona and Andy on this very special day and thank you for booking The CoverUps as your live wedding band!

Barnsley House Wedding To Kick Off July

To kick off our July wedding season The CoverUps returned to Barnsley House, this time, for Andrew and Emma’s wedding reception! The band have had the pleasure of playing at this Cotswold wedding venue numerous times before in both the main house and the marquee. Barnsley House always exceeds our expectations being a beloved historical venue with gorgeous grounds and welcoming staff who ensure the night runs smoothly.

The band arrived at Barnsley House in due time to set up their gear and sound check. As requested, we supplied I Won’t Let You Go by James Morison for the bride and groom’s first dance. Once guests were encouraged onto the dance floor the band started the night with Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, a favourite track also requested by Emma and Andrew. The dance floor was full, the bride and groom and their guests were drinking happily and enjoying themselves- what more could we ask for!

With a 12:30am finish, ending on a high note with a live cover of Summer Of ’69 by Bryan Adams, the band packed up and headed home to Coventry. It’s safe to say the band had an incredible time playing live music for Andrew and Emma on their wedding day and it was a successful night all in all.

Congratulations to the newlyweds! Thank you for booking The CoverUps as your wedding band!

Summer Wedding At The Lynches In Shrewsbury

This wedding was a particularly special occasion for The CoverUps as the bride booked the band after hearing them perform at her sister’s wedding in 2014! Katie and James were married this June and celebrated with their friends and family at The Lynches in Shrewsbury, just an hour and a half from the band’s base in Coventry, West Midlands.

The band had an earlier start than usual- arriving at 4:00pm to set up and soundcheck before the wedding guests finished their meal. Typically the band play a total of two hours of live music unless otherwise requested. For their wedding reception, Katie and James asked the band to play for two and half hours which ended the night at 12:30am. The CoverUps were ready to party until the lights went out!

The bride and groom emailed the band before the wedding day and asked for a few of their favourite tracks to be included in the set lists. Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen was amongst a few of their favourites and The Boys Are Back In Town by Thin Lizzy was especially requested for the bride’s mum. A few other classics were also added including Summer Of ’69 by Bryan Adams and Shine by Take That. The bride had also requested Shake It Off by Taylor Swift for all the ladies in the room. We don’t normally add this song unless our 5-piece band is booked, however, we wanted to make this night a night to remember for the bride and groom so we threw it in our set list and everyone loved it!

After the band performed a live cover of the bride and groom’s first dance choice, You Belong To Me by Bryan Adams, guests joined the happy couple on the dance floor and we kicked off the night with Moondance by Van Morrison.

The newlyweds and their guests kept the dance floor full late into the night and we couldn’t ask for anything better! To top it all off, there was an amazing firework show that had everyone in awe. What a great way to end the night! Congratulations to James and Katie! Please enjoy a fully live highlight video from the night below… make sure to keep watching for footage of the fireworks!
