2016 – It’s Been Quite A Year!

Happy New Year to all of our clients past, present and future! What a year it’s been!

The CoverUps have traveled as near as Wethele Manor in Leamington Spa and as far as Harrogate International Centre in Harrogate this past year. Having been a live West Midlands band for over a decade now, you’d think we would be tired of the travel. But truth is, the band still love playing live music for weddings, parties and corporate events all over the UK. We are really looking forward to a new year full of weddings and events for all of our lineups!

We still have dates available for 2017 so if you haven’t yet received a quick quote for your event please get in touch through our contact form here.

Enjoy a fully live video below highlighting some of our favourite moments of 2016!

The Captain’s Summer Ball – Aston Wood Golf Club

It’s always a pleasure driving up to a great golf course. The feeling of space and nature that envelops you as you make your way onto the grounds is always a delight. Aston Wood Golf Club in Sutton Coldfield is no exception – the 18 hole course set in 300 acres of rolling West Midlands countryside really is idyllic.

A Spectacular Room

A recent addition to the facilities at Aston Wood Golf Club is the Fotherly Suite – and truly lovely it is too. Wooden construction around a modern, yet elegant room made not only a wonderful space to be in, but the acoustics around the dance floor made it a great place for us to play.

Once again playing alongside a DJ – this time the Club’s House DJ – the band were there to set the tone and keep the diverse audience moving. Comprised of Golfers and self proclaimed Golf Widows, the demographic was pretty much as wide as they come with all manner of guests there. And so, to play a variety of tunes to please them all – this was the challenge!

Lively Dancing Songs

With the full 5-piece lineup, the set list could stray into the popper end of the spectrum, though it’s safe to say that the classics were what really got this audience going. We love playing all manner of music, but when a particular track – this time one of Michael Jackson’s finest – brings everyone to the dance floor it makes for a really fun night. Check out our photos from the night below – taken by our good friend the DJ!

Bicester, Oxfordshire To Give A Kidney!

Well – we didn’t quite go that far on our trip to Oxfordshire, but it was great to be able to play and support such a great charity. You can find out all about the endeavours of Give a Kidney at their website. For the band it was a great chance to play at another charity do – they’re great fun, and spirits run high as everyone gets into the giving mood… I don’t think any actual kidneys were pledged, but we heard a great amount of money was raised!

Left To Our Own Devices

On performances like this, we’re usually left very much to our own devices as far as the set list is concerned. A hint about the demographic was handy, and we set about putting together a great set list from our favourite tracks. The early evening started with a few golden oldies, Stuck In The Middle and Sweet Home Alabama getting the dance floor going. From there it was on to some of our more recent tracks – Drive By and Viva La Vida making appearances during the second set.

All in all, it was a great night, working for a great charity. If you can’t bear to part with kidney, why not just hop on their site and help raise awareness of the opportunity for others to donate and change a life!

Brand New Demo Tracks!

Back in Easter we took a trip down to the Rec House Recording Studio in Bath to record some new tracks that didn’t quite make it into our 5-piece demo late last year. Choosing which songs to record is always a tough decision, so we were really glad to get the opportunity to add these songs to the demo.

Vocal recording, mixing and production was courtesy of our good friends at Push Record.

Below are some photos from the day – we had a great little road trip!

Charity Ball At Nottinghamshire Golf Club

Nottinghamshire Golf Club sits just outside Nottingham itself and is a great venue. It’s not often we get to see such open expanses ourselves and our drive into the grounds made Gaz’s hands itch to swap a guitar for a golf club and get out on the course! Tonight though, was a charity event for a heart charity, Keep The Beat, not a chance to stretch our legs with a round of golf!

Function Bands Appreciate A Good Function Room

So often access to a venue seems to be the last thing on an architect’s mind when designing the layout for a venue. We regularly carry gear through the whole length of a venue before arriving in the function room we’re playing in. The Nottinghamshire Golf Club however was quite a different matter. Granted, there was a staircase to contend with, but that was it between the cars and the stage. It makes sense that the less energy we spend getting the equipment in and set up, the more we have for performing – and this gave us a great start!

    Simple, Straightforward Charity Event

It’s easy to overthink these kinds of events – but tonight’s organisers were spot on! A great meal, raffle and a band, with donations to charity being made at every stage. It makes sense to set a ticket price that makes a profit, but pays for a good night too. Getting a band for free and charging £5 a ticket you might make a couple of hundred pounds… paying for the entertainment and food and charging £50 a ticket you’re likely to make an order of magnitude more!

The show was great fun – as you can see from the photos. We had a good night, and hope to be back in Nottingham soon (sure we will!)
