Cracking 5-Piece Wedding In Mid-Wales

With various members of the band connected to Wales in a variety of ways, it’s always nice to make a trip through the valleys into the wilds of Mid-Wales. While making quite a journey, there’s little more spectacular scenery in the UK than the rolling Welsh hills and valleys. The glorious weather today’s couple were blessed with only added to the atmosphere as the whole community came together to celebrate – it was always going to be a great day!

Acoustic Drinks Reception

A great way to involve live music in more of the wedding day is to have an acoustic set over the drinks reception. The set kicked off as the guests arrived, the chilled out tunes, sunshine and drinks blending with the celebration after the wedding itself to make a great atmosphere. The bride and groom arrived on horse drawn carriage, much to the surprise of everyone there; a great photo opportunity! God Only Knows was a favourite of this set, along with Billy Joel’s Just The Way You are – not to be confused with Bruno Mars’ track of the same name, which also made an appearance. An impromptu rendition of Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry – by request – was also well received; nice to play a song that’s not been aired for a great many years.

5-Piece Evening Band

The rest of the band arrived in the early evening, just in time to grab something to eat and get set up. First Dance tonight was Gabrielle Aplin’s rendition of the Power Of Love – not to be confused with Huey Lewis’ awesome track by the same name (we played that later!) The couple chose to have the recording of the song, which is quite understandable given the arrangement. It’s a lovely song and one we’d love to play live (particularly the original Frankie Goes To Hollywood version!) – but Gabrielle Aplin’s version has a lovely quality to it.

Highlights and Late Nights

The night ramped up with some great 80s choices by the couple – a few new tracks we added for an 80s show earlier in the year making another appearance. A Little Respect be Erasure is a definite keeper from that set list – the keys parts sounded great! Kat took the female lead by storm, absolutely nailing Crazy In Love, and bringing her unique brand of Scandinavian attitude to the parts! As you can see from the photos below, everyone had a cracking night (still wanting to keep going at 1:30am!) – here’s to the next Wales gig! [pwaplusphp album=”MidWalesWeddingAugust2013″]
