Summer Ball At Woburn Golf Club

This particular event leads The CoverUps once again to Woburn Golf Club in Milton Keynes, just over an hours drive from the band’s base in Coventry. The band had played at this venue for parties and events in the past, and it was a pleasure to return to the golf club for a summer ball!

The band arrived earlier than usual to play live music during the dinner. Quieter, acoustic tracks were chosen for this section of the day so guests could enjoy their meal and talk easily with one another. The coordinator of the summer ball requested that the band play party music later in the evening when guests were ready to jump on the dance floor.

The CoverUps 5-piece band was booked so we kicked off the night with Price Tag by Jessie J thanks to our added female singer! Following this power tune the band played a range of music from 50s-10s including Sweet Child O’ Mine by Guns N’ Roses and California Girls by Katy Perry. We loved seeing guests drinking, dancing and having a great time. The night finished with a few favorite classics, Summer of ’69 and Don’t Look Back In Anger. Who doesn’t love a bit of Bryan Adams and Oasis?!

All in all, it was a fantastic night and the band hopes to return to Woburn Golf Club in the near future for more parties and corporate events!

Summer Ball At Woburn Golf Course

Summer is here – apparently! – and so to the season of the summer ball. This time it was a members’ Ball at the well respected Woburn Golf Course. Little over an hour from our HQ in Coventry the venue  greeted us with sunshine and a beautiful wooded driveway – a lovely arrival!

3 Courses

Usually when we’re talking about 3 courses, it’s the meal the guests are eating. This time it was 3 full 18 hole golf courses we were surrounded by! Once again itchy to get his clubs out, our guitarist, Gaz, spent much of his time admiring the memorabilia adorning the walls of the club – it seems a great many famous faces, and excellent golfers have walked these courses.

Rebookings Galore

The recommendation for booking the band came from an old client (or fan?!) of ours who booked us not only for his Daughter’s wedding and wife’s 50th, but his son’s wedding next year! Perhaps when you’ve got something that works there’s no need to try to fix it! Suffice to say, it made for a friendly reception for us, and the dance floor very quickly became bustling.

The night was great fun, with golfers, friends and family all enjoying a good excuse to don their finery and have some jolly nice food -and we’re really hoping to return sometime in the future! For now we’ll leave you with the few photos we managed to get of the dance floor.

Big Wedding in Little Horwood

The wedding tonight took place at Horwood House in Little Horward, near Milton Keynes. The venue is a characterful mix of old and new, with the original house adjacent to a much larger modern facility. I think there were two or three weddings actually taking place in the venue, though we saw little to give the game away.

We were setting up in a bar adjacent to the room in which the guests were eating, giving us plenty of time to get things sorted. The load ins at Horwood House aren’t our favourite (down windy corridors), but we were set, ready and fed with time to spare.

The first dance tonight was “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars; not to be confused with the Billy Joel track of the same name, which incidentally we played earlier this year. The bride and groom had asked for us to arrange a more chilled out version than the radio friendly recording we all know, and I think our acoustic lead version was well received. The young couple had requested to hear a number of recent artists, so there were a few more of our most current tracks than usual. Fireflies was probably our highlight for the evening – additional keyboards provided by Matt on tonight’s 5 piece line-up really added to the produced feel of the song. The wedding’s floor fillers were the usual suspects; Forget You, Pokerface and Don’t Stop Believing all rousing a great response from the diverse audience.

Scarcely 10 hours before the car needs to be packed for tomorrow night’s wedding in Cambridge, so I best get some sleep! Good night all…

Horwood House Hotel Corporate Event for PWC

Tonight was a bit of a different night for the band, as the entertainment for a corporate staff treat for the good people of Price Waterhouse Cooper. Corporate events like this are great fun. They’re different to weddings, with it being no one’s big day, so there’s less vested emotion and guests are there purely for the entertainment…. Tonight in the form of our live band!

Magic Before The Band

We followed an excellent mind reader with a fascinating style. His whole thing seemed to be telling you exactly how he does his tricks; but at the end you really feel none the wiser! I missed his name, but I’ll see if I can post a link to any of his work.

Steady Start

The first half stated relatively slowly; while kicking off with some great tracks, we knew there was likely to be a bit if time while people get the next round if drinks in, pop out for a cigarette and generally take the chance to mingle. About half way through we kicked off Don’t Feel Like Dancing, which some what ironically was the song that brought people to the dance floor in their droves! It’s a great disco tune, and so often a hilight at the cheesier end of the live set.

Other great songs in the music tonight were Just Dance, Forget You, and Don’t Stop Believing… This was definitely a radio aware audience!

We tried to get some more photos tonight, but there was a problem with the camera. We’ll see of we can fix it for tomorrow! Until then, good night!
