This September The CoverUps played live music for several weddings, a 21-st birthday party and a corporate event. It was definitely a busy month for this Coventry based function band!
Beautiful Barn Wedding In Worcestershire
Our first event of the month saw the band at Curradine Barns for Laura and Sarah’s wedding reception. The CoverUps enjoyed returning to this beautiful barn wedding venue located in the small village of Shrawley in Worcestershire. With 3 x 45 minute sets and plenty of requests by the brides we had a set list full of fun favourites that kept the dance floor full all night long! The band even changed the words to Moves Like Jagger to ‘Moves Like Hannah’ at the request of the brides. Everyone loved it!
5-Piece Wedding Band In Worcester
It was a double header weekend for the band as the next day we arrived at Orchard Manor in Worcester for Claire and Kush’s wedding day. This was a special one as the band played for Claire’s 21st birthday party and now it was her wedding day! I suppose having been a band for over a decade it was only a matter of time before this would happen! With our 5-piece lineup, Claire and Kush had a set list full of both male and female lead tracks including Only Girl In The World by Rihanna and Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. It was a brilliant night all in all.
A Happy Wedding Day In Surrey
Our next wedding brought the band to Nonsuch Mansion in Sutton, Surrey as a 5-piece lineup. The bride and groom picked Happy by Pharrell Williams for their first dance and the cover went down a treat. Soon after, guests joined the happy couple (pun intended!) on the dance floor for a night of Queen, Michael Jackson, The White Stripes, Spin Doctors and other classic rock covers! Christen and Mike on lead vocals did a wicked job covering these mega records.
21st Birthday Party Black Tie Style
The band was then booked to play live music for Tom and Harry’s joint 21st birthday party in Sheepwash, Melton Mowbray– a black tie event to say the least! With our 5-piece band, the birthday boys had a set list containing all their favourite songs. A youthful crowd kept the dance floor packed well into the night. Great energy, great party. We will never forget it!
Corporate Event In Harrogate
The CoverUps also visited Harrogate International Centre for Infection Prevention Society’s corporate event. Harrogate International Centre is a conference and exhibition building with a 2,000 seat auditorium and plenty of meeting spaces for events such as this one. With over a 2.5-hour drive, the venue wasn’t necessarily local for our West Midlands based musicians, but the travel was straightforward and the night went without a hitch.
Marquee Wedding In Swindon
To tie our September wedding season to a close we performed at the Evans’ marquee wedding at Manor Farm in Swindon. The bride and groom sent the band a list of their favourite songs before the big day. Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus and Johnny B Goode were amongst other chosen tracks. We had a great time playing these song requests to a packed dance floor and everyone enjoying themselves. The CoverUps wrapped it up with Wonderwall by Oasis, also requested by the bride and groom, and we couldn’t have imagined a better tune to end the night on a real high.

Kelmarsh Hall is a spectacular location for an occasion, not least an awesome wedding! Being only just down the road from our Coventry HQ, it was surprising that the band had never played live at Kelmarsh Hall before… It just goes to show there’s an amazing abundance of wonderful wedding venues even here in the Midlands!
We always love it when a couple really put their own stamp on their wedding day, and this night had creativity in spades – right the way through! New ideas, it seemed, were presenting themselves even as the evening went on. The first dance, Hungry Eyes from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, was a quirky choice in itself (though it was great fun to play!) but only minutes before we went on we learnt of a plan to do a first dance false start. An usher was tasked with playing a much more typical first dance from a laptop, and, just as people started to resolve that they’d gone for the safe option, the band would kick in with the real song! Well, you don’t earn a living from playing weddings for more than a decade without being able to take such things in our stride, and off we rocked!
From there the bride and her father danced to a recorded track for the second dance, after which the dancing really took off with the band kicking in. The night turned into something of an 80s dance party – at the couple’s request! Tracks from Aha, Huey Lewis And The News and Dexy’s Midnight Runners all had the packed dance floor jumping.
A Sparkling End
Another surprise to us in the band – though not to the ushers fortunately – was to for the happy couple to exit through a sparkler tunnel. As our last song drew to a close the band sent the audience out to the venue’s front steps, where the men of honour were handing out sparklers. Minutes later the steps were lined with a glorious sight – which we’ve captured rather amateurishly below (we’re a wedding band, not wedding photographers!).
A wonderful night had by all at Kelmarsh Hall – and as one of their new recommended suppliers, we hope to be back soon!

Tonight our merry band of CoverUps found themselves playing at a wedding in the little village of QUORN just outside Loughborough, Leicestershire. The bride and groom were a pleasure to work for, and as we tucked into our very welcome pig roast buns a polite young waitress turned up with a big tray of complimentary brownie and cheesecake which we thankfully duly scoffed (photo at the end).
Don’t Get Your Kickers In A Twist
I couldn’t help but notice the poster below that was hanging by the dance floor. I didn’t notice any underwear but I was quite busy.
Perfect Weather For A Campfire Wedding
It was a really lovely campfire style marquee wedding in a beautiful farmers field and was made even more perfect for the lucky couple by being bathed in God given 30’c sunshine that turned into a beautiful sunset for the photos. We’re always really chuffed for the bride and groom get the best out of the weather: it almost seems like a reward for all the hard work wedding planning.
We really enjoyed our time in Quorn, and I might even try some for my tea in honour of the little place.

It’d been a couple of years, though it hardly seems like yesterday the band were rolling up to the Hinckley Island Hotel, Leicestershire for our show with Proctor and Gamble. The room had an air of familiarity, though packed with more consultants and a fully modernised set – the stage was ready for the band to rock!
Rocking The Conference
These events are always great fun. However much energy is put into engaging the delegates during the day, they’re there to learn, get up to speed on the products, to focus. The presentations are usually injected with suitable amounts of humour, they’re all full multi-media presentations: but when we come on, it’s time to cut loose!
Always ready for a party, it’s great fun join the day when everyone’s letting their hair down. Tonight’s audience was largely female – though the lads made up for their fair share of the dance floor. Hits from Take That back to Chuck Berry, there’s always something there for everyone. The night rocked straight through with our breaks being filled by DJ Mikey B.
Wind Up Smelling Of Roses
Well – I can’t guarantee that everyone did – after some hearty dance moves braking out we ended the night on a real high. At least they’ve got the fragrance to sort that out! From Pharrell Williams’ Happy, a bit of Journey and Kings of Leon, the packed dance floor made for a great end to the night. Check out the photos below!

The Leicester Hilton is a handy venue for us, being as it is on the junction between M1 and M69, it’s a straight forward drive from Coventry, and not too difficult for those coming up from London, as our female vocalist and guitarist were today. The venue has a very professional feel, and is clearly well set up for functions. The load in was straight through fire doors to the stage area, which was partitioned off so we could set up out of sight of all the guests.
Leicester Hilton Wedding Food
Once we set up, as was straight forward today, it was time to eat before the sound check. We usually delay the sound check if there are speeches taking place, so we just checked the lines were all working and went for our food. A quick sit down to eat and chat over the set, and we were back to get the sound check finished.
Mystery First Dance
It’s not unusual for us not to know what the first dance is before the day. It’s often a rather last minute decision, and if we’re not playing it live there’s no rush. However, we’d usually expect that the couple themselves might know before the day, let alone before the time they’re due to take their first dance! Not this day – the groom even asked us there and then what we’d recommend! After a quick chat, we managed to find a copy of a Coldplay song they were after and popped that on, and off they went.
Close Proximity Bar
It’s always a good sign for us if the bar is in close proximity to the dance floor. Ideally in the same room, but in a room adjacent to the dance floor as it was in this case worked really well. Through the evening the drinks flowed, and the dancing got gradually more raucous. From the early part of the evening, with 5-piece tracks like I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 and Rolling In The Deep to the end of the night with Firework and Crazy In Love the people dance floor got more and more involved. As we finished with Viva La Vida and Don’t Look Back In Anger the night ended with rapturous celebration.

This mid-summer day was quite the ideal for a wedding; especially one set in the grounds of the parent of the bride with a fairground theme! Coleorton in Leicestershire nestles in between Burton-On-Trent and Loughborough, just south of Derby and to the north east of Leicester… That’s a long way of saying, it’s not far from us in Coventry, but takes a bit of getting to! On arrival we were greeted by a beautiful scene – an elegantly landscaped garden filled with traditional fairground rides, and a lovely marquee.. this was going to be a fun night!
Weddings Focussed On Fun
There are always different aspects to every wedding. In our experience, the best of weddings are those that reflect the personalities of the couple most vividly. Whether the couple are travellers, share an interesting hobby or work in similar fields, wedding themes derived from the couple themselves are always a great way to celebrate the bride and groom’s special day.
This wedding had so many personal touches we completely lost track. One that really stuck in our minds was the bunting that adorned the marquee. This was truly lovely, as every triangle had been personalised by the guests as part of their invitation response. As such, every view looking around the marquee was a reference to the happy couple themselves.
Another lovely touch was a box of sandals (or dancing shoes!) for those ladies with aching feet from high heels – now there was no excuse for not dancing! It worked a treat, as you can see below the dance floor was packed the whole night…
Hired Help For The Band!
A really helpful aspect of this wedding for us was working with a sound engineer and a PA that was provided by the venue. This let us just focus on getting our equipment set up, and enjoying the show knowing that someone else was worrying about how it sounded out front.
Brilliant First Dance Choice
The first dance was an excellent choice – You’ve Got A Friend In Me by Randy Newman. If you’re not sure, it’s the theme song from Toy Story! For us it’s always good fun to play a new song live for a first dance, and this is a track we’ve never had come up before. It struck us, as when you think of it it seems like such an obvious choice – but it’s a rare one. Definitely one for our list I think!
From there we were off to a winning start, and the dance floor was packed through the whole night – just check out the photos below!
