Corporate Event In Birmingham Wraps Up June

To wrap up The CoverUps’ June wedding season the band returned to our sister-city, Birmingham, this time, for a corporate event at Holiday Inn! Just down the road from Coventry where the band resides, Birmingham has a variety of fantastic venues we would recommend. Holiday Inn is certainly one of them especially for corporate events as the venue can easily host 100+ guests.

The band arrived at 6:00pm to quickly set up and soundcheck. Once the stage was set, the band were treated to a hot chicken dinner which gave us the energy we needed to kick off the night with real energy! The CoverUps 4-piece band with a male lead vocalist was booked for the night. It was requested the band play a range of songs from 50s-80s mostly to appeal to an age range of 30-60 years. Of course, we didn’t mind one bit!

Popular tracks by The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Queen and Aha really got guests on the dancefloor. We ended the night on a high note with Don’t Look Back In Anger by Oasis which always goes down a treat. A successful, fun night all in all!

Spring Wedding at Curradine Barns

On Wednesday, 23rd March the band made their way to The Curradine Barns in Shrawley for Adrianna and Todd’s wedding reception. It was a nice surprise to have a wedding mid-week as well as visit a venue new to the band! Curradine Barns is a truly picturesque wedding venue in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside. Just over an hours drive from Coventry where The CoverUps are based, it was an easy and enjoyable journey.

The band arrived at 6:00pm to set up our gear and grab a bite to eat. We jumped in on the hog roast which was suburb and gave us the energy we needed to put on a great show. Our stomachs were thankful!

To kickoff the night, the band played Wings by Birdy as requested by the bride and groom. Wings was a lovely track we enjoyed preparing for Adrianna and Todd and we could tell their family and friends loved it too! Immediately after, guests were encouraged onto the dance floor to join the newlyweds and we were on to a great evening!

A real favourite of the night had to be Uptown Funk lead by Christen and Adam on vocals. Everyone was on their feet bringing high energy into the room and pulling out their best dance moves. All in all it was a smashing night at a great venue we hope to return to soon!

We can’t finish this post without thanking our amazing sound technician, Zac. With his help, our set up, sound check, performance and pack down are made 10x easier. It is great to have him on board!

5-Piece Wedding At MoxHull Hall

On this special occasion, The CoverUps returned to Moxhull Hall for Joanne and Mark’s big day! Being one of the West Midland‘s most popular wedding venues, it was no surprise that Moxhull Hall was also the ideal location for this particular wedding celebration!

The band arrived at 6:00pm to set up and soundcheck. With a quick load in, we set the stage in ready time to eat our fill on chicken and chips- courtesy of the bride and groom! As speeches came to a close, we readied ourselves for the newlyweds first dance.

The couple chose Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran and I Loved Her First by Heartland as recorded tracks played by the venue’s DJ. The CoverUps came in immediately after with the first live song of the night and all guests were encouraged onto the dance floor. With Christen on female vocals we were able to add in a few favourite tracks by Taylor Swift and Meghan Trainer which really kept high energy in the room!

The band couldn’t have asked for a more lively night! It was great to see the bride and groom and their closest family and friends enjoying themselves and packing out the dance floor until the very end. Congratulations to this fantastic couple and we hope you enjoyed the night even more than The CoverUps did!

Enjoy a fully live highlight video of the night below…

Christmas Celebration at Wroxall Abbey

On this particular winter day, The CoverUps returned yet again to Wroxall Abbey, located just down the road from the band’s home base in Coventry. Though the band have performed for numerous weddings at Wroxall Abbey before, it was great to perform live music for a Christmas party this time!

Festive joy was in the air from the moment we arrived. Bubbly was poured, the welcoming scent of holiday treats met our hungry stomachs and we were greeted warmly by smiling faces. We were certainly in for a good time!

We arrived at the venue at 6:00pm sharp to set up and played recorded music in the background for the bride and groom’s evening meal. With instruments ready, we played our first set at 9:30pm when everyone was ready to put their dancing shoes on. Having a cosy number of around 70 guests attending, it was a relaxed atmosphere while guests enjoyed swaying to the music, chatting with their friends and keeping their glasses full to the brim!

As requested, we added a couple Christmas classics into our set list which ended the night on a real high. As we packed down for the night, we provided recorded music until 1:00am while guests said their goodbyes and wished one another Merry Christmas.

Overall, it was a fantastic night that we all thoroughly enjoyed! Until next time, Wroxall Abbey!

A Rockin’ Barn Wedding In Coleshill, Birmingham

One of The CoverUps favourite West Midlands wedding venues has to be Shustoke Farm Barns. This fantastic venue just so happened to be the destination of Kirsty and Matthew’s wedding this past October. Only a short drive from the band’s HQ in Coventry, Shustoke Farm Barns sits in a rural part of Coleshill, Birmingham and is a popular venue among several near the area. The barn is distinct in itself with bold brick architecture, flagstone floors and a copper top bar. A stylish, rustic and chic venue to suit practically any wedding party. Check out some of the band’s previous weddings at Shustoke Farm Barns here!

Drink, Dance, Celebrate!

The recorded track, Kodaline by The One started the bride and groom’s first dance. Immediately after the band took the stage with the classic Moondance by Van Morrison followed by Stuck in the Middle with You by Steelers Wheel! Kirsty, Matthew and their guests kept the dance floor full the entire night which we always love to see! An abundance of drink, dance offs and the perfect excuse to celebrate lead us to describe the night in one word- FUN!

A break of pulled pork batches and cake at 9:00pm gave us the chance to rest our voices and the guests a chance to put their feet up before heading straight back to the dance floor for the band’s second set. We danced and sang until our voices were sore straight to the end with Summer of ’69 by Bryan Adams bringing the night to a close.

Thank you so much, Kirsty and Matthew for giving The CoverUps the pleasure of performing on your memorable wedding day. Congratulations to you both! We hope you enjoy a few memories from the night…

Bromsgrove’s Redhouse Barn For A Wonderful Wedding

After a brilliant wedding the previous night, we were back to Birmingham but this time for Katy and Jon’s wedding at Redhouse Farm Barn! Redhouse Barn is just a short jaunt from the band’s home in Coventry which made it a convenient gig for everyone! It wasn’t a venue we had played at before and we were delighted to play there as a 5-piece band for such a lovely young couple on this warm August day.

Going Gaga For The Ladies

Despite its tongue and cheek references, Marry You by Bruno Mars is fast becoming a wedding classic that everyone loves! With a 60s-70s standard first set and the second half of our set list highlighting the best of the 10s, it was a seamless night with a jam-packed dance floor and everyone having a whale of a time. Christen rocked it on female vocals as part of our 5-piece line up and it was obvious the girls in the audience especially loved the added Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Meghan Trainor tracks! There was a never dull moment at this wedding that is for sure!

Sing It Like You Mean It

Last but not least we ended the night with the Guns and Roses track, Sweet Child O’ Mine. This song is always a smashing end to an awesome day. We love hearing the bride and groom and their guests singing at the top of their lungs above the volume of the music! Everyone gave all they had to this one and we absolutely loved it.

Congratulations to the newlyweds, Katy and Jon. Thank you for letting us be a small part of your special day! All the best to you on your journey together!

Garden Marquee Wedding In Birmingham

Just down the road from The CoverUps hometown in Coventry was the celebration of Joanne and Ben’s wedding in Edgbaston, Birmingham! Joanne and Ben decided on an intimate wedding with only their close friends and family. After a ceremony at their local church, the bride and groom, along with their guests, wined and dined in an elegant garden marquee set up.

Once we arrived at the reception location we immediately unpacked our gear into a side room in the marquee away from the guests enjoying the wedding breakfast. Once set up, we sat down ourselves and enjoyed delicious beef wellington- an impressive dish for an outdoor wedding! Our stomachs were thankful and the meal prepared us for a lively evening performance!

As requested by the bride and groom, the band played Shut Up and Dance to kick off the night and everyone was encouraged onto the dance floor. In our opinion, this is a very clever way of keeping the tradition of a first dance if you don’t want all eyes on you! It was an energetic start to the evening that kept going throughout the entire reception!

Thank you, Joanne and Ben, for inviting us to perform at your wedding. We hope it was even more memorable for you than it was for us! Huge congratulations to you both!

A Smashing Night In Solihull

Solihull, sitting just south of Birmingham is barely a stone’s throw from the band’s epicentre in Coventry. Playing a wedding so close to home is great, and the band always arrive fresh for the show. This night we arrived early to get the PA set up ready for the speeches. Being hidden behind a curtain in the expansive marquee gave us a chance to get set up without having to worry about how things looked while we did so – always a nice thing for us and the guests!

Today

The first dance was Today by the Smashing Pumpkins played live by the band. The chosen version though was that of Willamette Stone, which is much calmer, and made for a lovely first dance. Jo made a tidy job of a guitar solo to replace the string instrumental of the original – his guitar tone and playing always give tingles!

Rocking The Marquee – Live!

Something we’ve always enjoyed is the juxtaposition of such an elegant wedding marquee and a live rock band – especially when the rockier end of the repertoire has been requested! With Kings of Leon, Killers and Guns ‘n Roses bringing the the first set to a rocky end, The Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Fratellis and Stereophonics brought the dance floor to an epic frenzy in the second set. A classic end of night with Hey Jude topped things off to a tee.

Enjoy the photos below of our trip to Solihull – and the band will be rocking a wedding in the area again in the future we’re quite sure!

A Relaxed Wedding Party At Warwickshire’s Nuthurst Grange

Nuthurst Grange has quickly become one of the band’s new favourite wedding venues. Just to the South of Birmingham, it lies in Warwickshire countryside barely 20mins from the CoverUps Coventry HQ. On arrival we were delighted to find out our set up was well beyond earshot of the dining wedding guests, leaving us free to get our equipment set up, and even have a quick run through the first dance!

More Than Words

In over a decade, playing hundreds of weddings, it’s amazing that this was the debut for us playing this particular first dance. More Than Words by Extreme is a gorgeous choice, and one both our guitarist and vocalist cut their teeth on nearly 2 decades ago. The delicate track was perfect for the Nuthurst Barn, and as the guitar struck up there were whoops and the guests recognised the distinctive guitar pattern. A few bro-mance harmony moments later and the guests flocked to the dance floor.

80s Power Pop

The night continued with throws of the 80s (while More Than Words was technically released in the 1990, the whole album has that 80s rock sound: just check out Steve playing Decadence Dance from the same album!) From Paul Simon (You Can Call Me Al) to Aha and Huey Lewis And The News it was a time machine trip Marty McFly would have been proud of!

Back To The Future

From there – after a short break for everyone to catch their breath – the band pulled the set right back to the modern day. With Happy by Pharrell Williams running straight into an impromptu rendition of Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off (as requested by the bridesmaids) the band rocked the dance floor hard through to the end of the night.

We’re looking forward to a return to Nuthurst Grange in the new year, but for now, just enjoy the photos of the night!

Return To Wroxall Abbey

In the decade of playing wedding gigs the length and breadth of the UK, few venues have the combination of style, elegance and history that Wroxall Abbey has in abundance. Arriving in the early spring evening with sun peeking through the ominous clouds, the Warwickshire countryside looked full of life and promise.

Sunny Days At Wroxall Abbey

We made the short trip from our Coventry homes to the beautiful Abbey for a delightful couple’s wedding. As we were setting up we heard overheard the exuberant reaction to the speeches and knew we were in for a fun night. After those finished, the happy couple – and they seemed extremely happy! – greeted us, and we had a quick chat over the first dance. They’d chosen Michael Bible’s everything. Its a lovely track, and one we’re really happy playing live.

From there it was a packed dance floor start to finish. The first set was great fun, the 60s stuff being really popular with a very youthful dance floor. It’s always surprising seeing what goes down well, especially on nights like this where the demographic is narrower than it often is at a wedding. Jonny B Goode is always a guaranteed dance floor filler. We’re looking forward to returning to Wroxall Abbey soon!
