Winter Wedding At Warwick House

This particular chilly day in November was the wedding of Joanne and Richard who wed at Warwick House in Warwickshire. As a Coventry-based band, The CoverUps traveled only a few minutes to perform for this bride and groom’s evening reception.

Dance Shoes? Check.

Warwick House is one of Warwickshire’s most-loved wedding venues. It sits secluded though near enough to the main roads which makes it easy to access for parties and large events. The CoverUps, having the privilege of performing at this esteemed venue in the past, were delighted to be asked back for Joanne and Richard’s special day.

To compliment the “gothic style windows, high ceilings, cornices and decorative mouldings…” the venue boasts about on their website, the ballroom has a spacious dance floor encouraging all guests to put their dancing shoes on!

The night started with You’re My Best Friend by Queen played by the DJ and erupting immediately after with the band performing It’s All About You by McFly. The bride and groom and their guests gave their all on the dance floor and kept the energy up well until the end! 500 Miles by The Proclaimers turned out to be an encore after Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis wasn’t enough for the partiers! The band are always up for an encore so of course we didn’t mind extending the night a few extra minutes.

Thanks Warwick House for being so accommodating and brilliant yet again. Also a massive congratulations to Joanne and Richard! May you enjoy many, many happy years together!

These photos only tell a fraction of the story, but we hope you enjoy a look into how the night went down!

Conference Dinner At The Majestic Hotel

In the heart of Harrogate lies the 4-star victorian venue, The Majestic Hotel. North Yorkshire’s favourite hotel is not only a relaxing location providing access to the town’s many fine buildings and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, it also provides a fantastic destination for corporate gatherings- one of which the band had the pleasure of performing for this past November.

A standard start to the night that everyone loves is Moondance by Van Morrison. The band kept the party going with The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and a few favourites by Queen which had everyone bobbing to the music.

The CoverUps enjoy the occasional change of schedule by playing at conference dinners and gatherings. There is a bit more space to perform and play while guests dance and chat. It’s always a success in our books to be reassured by the end of the night that everyone had a great time regardless of whether they had a drink in hand or their dancing shoes on!

We hope you enjoy a quick overview of the night from a few photos below…!

If you’re interested in The CoverUps for your future party or corporate event, please feel free to get in touch through our contact form here.

5-Piece Performance In 16th Century London

The CoverUps have traveled to London for numerous weddings before but rarely have the band had the privilege to play in venues so steeped in history as Skinners Hall located directly in the heart of the city. This historical 16th century building is rich in tradition and styled with paintings, coats of armour and period furniture. If you’re a bride or groom of English tradition and rich, elegant style, Skinners Hall would be a great venue for you. As if it were destined to be, Sophie and James Hewitt were the perfect bride and groom to suit a venue so elaborate as this one.

A Groovy Kind Of Love

Sophie and James did great ground work for us before their wedding day by sending us a list of their favourite songs from our repertoire. We pulled their set list together paying close attention to their preferred tracks and were confident it would go down a storm on the wedding day. We started the night with a live performance of the bride and groom’s first dance request, A Groovy Kind of Love by Phil Collins. The happy couple swayed to the music while their loved ones looked on endearingly.

Every Excuse To Celebrate

Soon after the party kicked off with a jam-packed dance floor and everyone singing along to Signed, Sealed Delivered I’m Yours- one of the most popular Stevie Wonder tracks known to wedding-goers. With an added female vocalist to make our 5-piece lineup we were able to bring out tracks such as Rehab, All About That Bass and Firework, just to name a few favourites from the girls side!

The night as a whole was one to be remembered. Not only were we in a historical building, we were celebrating a fantastic couple and having a blast performing some of our favourite tracks. We couldn’t ask for anything more!

The biggest Woot! Woot! and congratulations goes out to Sophie and James on this memorable day. We are privileged to have performed for your wedding reception and we hope you look back on the night with fond memories. Enjoy a few photos below!

A Rockin’ Barn Wedding In Coleshill, Birmingham

One of The CoverUps favourite West Midlands wedding venues has to be Shustoke Farm Barns. This fantastic venue just so happened to be the destination of Kirsty and Matthew’s wedding this past October. Only a short drive from the band’s HQ in Coventry, Shustoke Farm Barns sits in a rural part of Coleshill, Birmingham and is a popular venue among several near the area. The barn is distinct in itself with bold brick architecture, flagstone floors and a copper top bar. A stylish, rustic and chic venue to suit practically any wedding party. Check out some of the band’s previous weddings at Shustoke Farm Barns here!

Drink, Dance, Celebrate!

The recorded track, Kodaline by The One started the bride and groom’s first dance. Immediately after the band took the stage with the classic Moondance by Van Morrison followed by Stuck in the Middle with You by Steelers Wheel! Kirsty, Matthew and their guests kept the dance floor full the entire night which we always love to see! An abundance of drink, dance offs and the perfect excuse to celebrate lead us to describe the night in one word- FUN!

A break of pulled pork batches and cake at 9:00pm gave us the chance to rest our voices and the guests a chance to put their feet up before heading straight back to the dance floor for the band’s second set. We danced and sang until our voices were sore straight to the end with Summer of ’69 by Bryan Adams bringing the night to a close.

Thank you so much, Kirsty and Matthew for giving The CoverUps the pleasure of performing on your memorable wedding day. Congratulations to you both! We hope you enjoy a few memories from the night…

Coventry’s Coombe Abbey For An Elegant Wedding

The CoverUps as a band are very familiar with Coombe Abbey. As one of Coventry’s, nay the West Midlands’ busiest venues wedding venues, it’s understandable that the band make regular visits to the wonderful medieval grounds.

On The Record

It’s not uncommon for the band to be asked to play the recording of a song that they’d be happy playing live. While a band’s live performance of a first dance is for many a real highlight of the day, the original recordings of songs can evoke memories in a way that only the original singer’s voice does. We never take offence either way – and it’s always nice to hear John Legend singing his work in the way that only he does!

Up All Night

It was straight from the first dance the band struck into the first live set. With a variety of classics requested by the couple, and a heavy 80s influence the set was packed with dance floor filling songs. Songs by Soft Cell and the Human league hadn’t made appearances in recent months, so it was lovely to break them out for such an appreciative audience!

On Top Of The World

Playing as a live wedding band is awesome – we get to see people at their very best! The happiest day of their lives, with all their friends and family around them: playing a euphoric set finisher they’ll remember in years to come is just a wonderful feeling.

We’re really excited for Caroling and Tom, and really hoping they have a wonderful first year of married life!

Steve and Rebekah’s Private Wedding At Norwood Park

Just twenty minutes from Nottingham city centre hides the East Midland’s most romantic, ancient wedding venue, Norwood Park. As a period home closed to the public, the land allows a peaceful private location for any wedding party looking for serene privacy to fully enjoy their time away, uninterrupted.

An Acoustic Set To Suit

A slightly different set up to the usual, the band arrived in the early afternoon to set up for an acoustic set which was performed over the wedding breakfast. As the guests wined and dined, the band performed a set of low-key background songs to create a relaxed dinner atmosphere.
Once the evening commenced we took notice of the bride and groom and their guests enjoying the chilled music more than the usual favourited dance tunes. Being a smaller crowd, they were quite happy to listen and enjoy watching us play while they chatted and swayed to the music. Though it was a less extreme dance floor than what’s usually the norm for the band, the guests enjoyed themselves all the same- as did we!

A Function Band’s Success

A few highlights of the night included a pizza oven for the evening buffet, a cut out board of Sir Bruce Forsyth and enjoying a waterfront view from the house. We were reminded of a valuable key to being a successful function band; take song requests before the wedding day and adjust accordingly on the night to ensure everyone is having a great time. The work beforehand certainly pays off. With a particularly mellow crowd on this night, we pulled back the Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars and added a few more subtle tracks from Aha, The Beatles and Bryan Adams. The evening flowed seamlessly!
A big congratulations goes out to Steve and Rebekah! Thank you for booking The CoverUps to provide live music on your special day. Enjoy a few memories from the night below…

Derby Bound For A Farm-Lovin’ Wedding

For this September wedding the band headed up North from their Coventry base for Ed and Emily’s wedding reception at Lumb House Farm.

A new venue for The CoverUps, Lumb House Farm provided a country chic experience for the bride and groom’s evening celebration. This organic farm-loving venue has been a running wedding venue for the past 30 years. With function and music room facilities and conference catering abilities on top of their wedding coordination, they are quickly becoming one of Derbyshire’s most-loved wedding destinations.

After a meal of sea bass provided by the catering outdoors the band set up our gear and swiftly invited the bride and groom to the dance floor. The band then started the night by performing a live cover of How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding for the couple’s first dance.

In the run up to their wedding, Ed and Emily sent through a list of The CoverUps repertoire with their requested songs highlighted and the songs they were less keen on crossed out. It made for an effortless pull together of their set list that we were confident they would love.  The night proceeded with a raging dance floor and the best of 80s and 90s hits. Music mattered to this bride and groom which we couldn’t respect more!

Congratulations to Ed and Emily! On behalf of the band, it was a privilege to play for your wedding reception and we wish you the very best on your journey together as husband and wife!

40th Wedding Anniversary At Ettington Park

Ettington Park, in the heart of Warwickshire sits in familiar territory for the band, just beyond Warwick, Leamington Spa and Stratford-Upon-Avon. A regular haunt for the CoverUps, the band always get a warm welcome at Ettington Park. And to everyone’s relief, the party had exclusive use of the hotel, meaning the band were spared the stairs, lifts and corridors to the venue’s Long Gallery!

Get Your Ruby Dancing Shoes On!

Without the same level of formality, it can take a few songs to draw people to the dance floor at parties… But not so with this group! Right from the off, (Marry You, Bruno Mars) the dance floor was bustling. The multigenerational crowd all flocking to the dance floor together.

From The Kinks To The Killers

A key part of being in a live party band is making sure that everyone’s catered for. Even with over a decade of experience playing for all kids of occasions, from weddings, sweet 16s, ski resorts and product launches, the band still raise a smile at the way music, both modern and classic brings people together, both young and old. This night showed this as clearly as any party with songs from Stevie Wonder to Walk The Moon all going down brilliantly.

Enjoy these photos of the night, and hopefully we’ll be back for the Sapphire, Gold or even Diamond wedding anniversaries!

Bromsgrove’s Redhouse Barn For A Wonderful Wedding

After a brilliant wedding the previous night, we were back to Birmingham but this time for Katy and Jon’s wedding at Redhouse Farm Barn! Redhouse Barn is just a short jaunt from the band’s home in Coventry which made it a convenient gig for everyone! It wasn’t a venue we had played at before and we were delighted to play there as a 5-piece band for such a lovely young couple on this warm August day.

Going Gaga For The Ladies

Despite its tongue and cheek references, Marry You by Bruno Mars is fast becoming a wedding classic that everyone loves! With a 60s-70s standard first set and the second half of our set list highlighting the best of the 10s, it was a seamless night with a jam-packed dance floor and everyone having a whale of a time. Christen rocked it on female vocals as part of our 5-piece line up and it was obvious the girls in the audience especially loved the added Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Meghan Trainor tracks! There was a never dull moment at this wedding that is for sure!

Sing It Like You Mean It

Last but not least we ended the night with the Guns and Roses track, Sweet Child O’ Mine. This song is always a smashing end to an awesome day. We love hearing the bride and groom and their guests singing at the top of their lungs above the volume of the music! Everyone gave all they had to this one and we absolutely loved it.

Congratulations to the newlyweds, Katy and Jon. Thank you for letting us be a small part of your special day! All the best to you on your journey together!

Garden Marquee Wedding In Birmingham

Just down the road from The CoverUps hometown in Coventry was the celebration of Joanne and Ben’s wedding in Edgbaston, Birmingham! Joanne and Ben decided on an intimate wedding with only their close friends and family. After a ceremony at their local church, the bride and groom, along with their guests, wined and dined in an elegant garden marquee set up.

Once we arrived at the reception location we immediately unpacked our gear into a side room in the marquee away from the guests enjoying the wedding breakfast. Once set up, we sat down ourselves and enjoyed delicious beef wellington- an impressive dish for an outdoor wedding! Our stomachs were thankful and the meal prepared us for a lively evening performance!

As requested by the bride and groom, the band played Shut Up and Dance to kick off the night and everyone was encouraged onto the dance floor. In our opinion, this is a very clever way of keeping the tradition of a first dance if you don’t want all eyes on you! It was an energetic start to the evening that kept going throughout the entire reception!

Thank you, Joanne and Ben, for inviting us to perform at your wedding. We hope it was even more memorable for you than it was for us! Huge congratulations to you both!
