September Recap!

This September The CoverUps played live music for several weddings, a 21-st birthday party and a corporate event. It was definitely a busy month for this Coventry based function band!

Beautiful Barn Wedding In Worcestershire

Our first event of the month saw the band at Curradine Barns for Laura and Sarah’s wedding reception. The CoverUps enjoyed returning to this beautiful barn wedding venue located in the small village of Shrawley in Worcestershire. With 3 x 45 minute sets and plenty of requests by the brides we had a set list full of fun favourites that kept the dance floor full all night long! The band even changed the words to Moves Like Jagger to ‘Moves Like Hannah’ at the request of the brides. Everyone loved it!

5-Piece Wedding Band In Worcester

It was a double header weekend for the band as the next day we arrived at Orchard Manor in Worcester for Claire and Kush’s wedding day. This was a special one as the band played for Claire’s 21st birthday party and now it was her wedding day! I suppose having been a band for over a decade it was only a matter of time before this would happen! With our 5-piece lineup, Claire and Kush had a set list full of both male and female lead tracks including Only Girl In The World by Rihanna and Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. It was a brilliant night all in all.

A Happy Wedding Day In Surrey

Our next wedding brought the band to Nonsuch Mansion in Sutton, Surrey as a 5-piece lineup. The bride and groom picked Happy by Pharrell Williams for their first dance and the cover went down a treat. Soon after, guests joined the happy couple (pun intended!) on the dance floor for a night of Queen, Michael Jackson, The White Stripes, Spin Doctors and other classic rock covers! Christen and Mike on lead vocals did a wicked job covering these mega records.

21st Birthday Party Black Tie Style

The band was then booked to play live music for Tom and Harry’s joint 21st birthday party in Sheepwash, Melton Mowbray– a black tie event to say the least! With our 5-piece band, the birthday boys had a set list containing all their favourite songs. A youthful crowd kept the dance floor packed well into the night. Great energy, great party. We will never forget it!

Corporate Event In Harrogate

The CoverUps also visited Harrogate International Centre for Infection Prevention Society’s corporate event. Harrogate International Centre is a conference and exhibition building with a 2,000 seat auditorium and plenty of meeting spaces for events such as this one. With over a 2.5-hour drive, the venue wasn’t necessarily local for our West Midlands based musicians, but the travel was straightforward and the night went without a hitch.

Marquee Wedding In Swindon

To tie our September wedding season to a close we performed at the Evans’ marquee wedding at Manor Farm in Swindon. The bride and groom sent the band a list of their favourite songs before the big day. Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus and Johnny B Goode were amongst other chosen tracks. We had a great time playing these song requests to a packed dance floor and everyone enjoying themselves. The CoverUps wrapped it up with Wonderwall by Oasis, also requested by the bride and groom, and we couldn’t have imagined a better tune to end the night on a real high.

5-Piece Wedding Band At The Old Rectory Hotel

This May, The CoverUps had the pleasure of visiting an elegant wedding venue, The Old Rectory Hotel, based in Llangattock near the Crickhowell river. Dating back to the 16th century, the hotel was the perfect historical location for Tom and Cassie’s marquee wedding with a view of the Black Mountains in the distance- definitely a first for our Coventry based band!

The bride and groom had booked our 5-piece lineup to play at their wedding reception, specifically requesting one of our female lead singers, Rachel, as they heard her singing at a previous wedding! The band arrived at 6pm to set up and sound check in the marquee set up in the garden. As requested by the newlyweds, we came prepared with an upbeat set list ready to get people on the dance floor!

The band performed a fully live cover of Drift Away by Dobie Gray as the bride and groom’s first dance choice and it kicked off the night brilliantly. Soon after, guests joined the happy couple on the dance floor and we got the party started with Stuck In The Middle With You by Stealers Wheel followed by a favourite, Sweet Home Alabama by Lynrd Skynyrd. The night went down a storm with Tom and Cassie and their guests partying late into the night.

Congratulations to Tom and Cassie! Thanks for having The CoverUps as your wedding band! Enjoy a fully live highlight video of the night below…

Spring Wedding at Curradine Barns

On Wednesday, 23rd March the band made their way to The Curradine Barns in Shrawley for Adrianna and Todd’s wedding reception. It was a nice surprise to have a wedding mid-week as well as visit a venue new to the band! Curradine Barns is a truly picturesque wedding venue in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside. Just over an hours drive from Coventry where The CoverUps are based, it was an easy and enjoyable journey.

The band arrived at 6:00pm to set up our gear and grab a bite to eat. We jumped in on the hog roast which was suburb and gave us the energy we needed to put on a great show. Our stomachs were thankful!

To kickoff the night, the band played Wings by Birdy as requested by the bride and groom. Wings was a lovely track we enjoyed preparing for Adrianna and Todd and we could tell their family and friends loved it too! Immediately after, guests were encouraged onto the dance floor to join the newlyweds and we were on to a great evening!

A real favourite of the night had to be Uptown Funk lead by Christen and Adam on vocals. Everyone was on their feet bringing high energy into the room and pulling out their best dance moves. All in all it was a smashing night at a great venue we hope to return to soon!

We can’t finish this post without thanking our amazing sound technician, Zac. With his help, our set up, sound check, performance and pack down are made 10x easier. It is great to have him on board!

Romantic Wedding At Eastnor Castle

This Friday evening The CoverUps arrived at the glorious Eastnor Castle for the wedding of Amy and Jason! Built in the 19th century, Eastnor Castle is a revival castle only two miles away from the town of Ledbury: and a glorious example of such a place it is too. Pulling into the car park, the band familiar with the venue, we set straight to work loading the equipment through the ramparts to the wedding reception room.

Paul Weller – Live First Dance

After a straightforward setup in a room they’re well used to, the band tucked into some exquisite food. While a meal the calibre of a wedding breakfast isn’t required (a ‘bandsagne’, as we like to call them, will usually hit the spot!) it’s always a treat – and tucking into such perfectly cooked meat is always a treat that will put any musicians in a great mood!

And so to the first dance and Paul Weller’s well-known anthem You Do Something To Me. It’s a beautiful song, the piano hook sounding wonderful played by a the live band (gorgeous pianos provided by Pianoteq for anyone interested!).

Indie Hits

The bride and groom’s choices spanned across the decades, but there was a definite penchant for indie hits. We rolled out some classics that took us back to the days of learning guitar: She’s Electric, Sit Down, Parklife to name but a few.

As the night rolled on, the dance floor went from bustling to jam packed, and the castle rocked to the band’s music! Great finale to a wedding day and a real pleasure playing for the couple!

A Spectacular Wedding at Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire

Tonight saw the band play a beautiful wedding at Eastnor Castle, Ledbury in Herefordshire – the rural west of the West Midlands. It’s a wonderful part of the world – some of the more dramatic scenery in the southern half of England… Though I suspect that has something to do with it’s proximity to Wales!

Spectacular Wedding Venue

It has to be said; Eastnor Castle truly is amongst the most spectacular wedding venues we’ve had the privilege of playing. As a wedding band, we get to tour the UK and beyond playing for happy couples in some wonderful surroundings… but few match this Eastnor Castle – not least for it’s amazing armour collection (which you can see some of in the photos below!).

Excellent First Dance

The bride and groom tonight had planned a choreographed routine to When You Say Nothing At All by Ronan Keating. While we could have played the song live, and would have done so happily, the couple chose to use the familiar version that they had rehearsed to. It makes a lot of sense when the routine is planned, to use the version of the song that you’re used to. Any band, however well rehearsed will sound different to the recording live, and in those circumstances the last thing you want is to be thrown by a missing cue!

Multi-national Audience

It was mentioned in the planning that the audience was going to consist largely of people not from the UK. A big part of us choosing songs to play in the live set is making sure that they will be known widely enough so as to entertain the most diverse of crowds – and this certainly was that! As you can see however, their diversity was no match for our song choice; the dance floor remaining packed start to finish!

A Swift Exit

Due to licensing restrictions the set was curtailed at exactly midnight. Time had flown by, and we hadn’t even allowed time for an encore – and playing one song beyond midnight was a no-no, sadly! And so it was that we packed, and were on the road shortly before 12:45am.
