Rocking In Silence At Blackwell Grange

Silent Disco Band Blackwell Grange Shipston On Stour Cotswolds Wedding

One of our brand new local favourite wedding venues is the delightful Blackwell Grange in Shipston-On-Stour. A modern, elegantly converted barn with glorious views and surroundings – it’s an idyllic setting for a beautiful wedding celebration.

Shhh…

In over a decade performing an eclectic mix of venues across the length and breadth of the UK we’ve worked with all manner of requirements from venues, couples, wedding planners – you name it! A common one is to work alongside a sound limiter. It’s always our goal to give the bride and groom the best night possible, and that means giving them something to dance to!

Working with a sound limiter is a skill, but one all our musicians are talented enough to pull off without anyone noticing. A sound limiter is so low that the audience singing along sets it off sounds like a deal break, right? If the audience are going to cut the band’s power, it doesn’t matter how quietly they play… does it?!

The Sound Of Silence

In order to keep our on stage sound to a minimum, the band always use in ear monitors – headphones that play what each musician needs to hear. Given that, it’s a small step – if quite a technical and complex one – to give the whole audience headphones they can crank as loud as they like. All of a sudden the room is all but silent with a dance floor full of people rocking out like they’re at an arena gig!

Rockabye Baby

A wonderful night was had by all and, importantly for Blackwell Grange, there were no complaints from the neighbours. It’s such fun being part of a night like this, using our experience to turn an otherwise potentially disappointing night into an amazing night of celebration. We’re looking forward to returning!

Barnsley House Wedding To Kick Off July

To kick off our July wedding season The CoverUps returned to Barnsley House, this time, for Andrew and Emma’s wedding reception! The band have had the pleasure of playing at this Cotswold wedding venue numerous times before in both the main house and the marquee. Barnsley House always exceeds our expectations being a beloved historical venue with gorgeous grounds and welcoming staff who ensure the night runs smoothly.

The band arrived at Barnsley House in due time to set up their gear and sound check. As requested, we supplied I Won’t Let You Go by James Morison for the bride and groom’s first dance. Once guests were encouraged onto the dance floor the band started the night with Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, a favourite track also requested by Emma and Andrew. The dance floor was full, the bride and groom and their guests were drinking happily and enjoying themselves- what more could we ask for!

With a 12:30am finish, ending on a high note with a live cover of Summer Of ’69 by Bryan Adams, the band packed up and headed home to Coventry. It’s safe to say the band had an incredible time playing live music for Andrew and Emma on their wedding day and it was a successful night all in all.

Congratulations to the newlyweds! Thank you for booking The CoverUps as your wedding band!

Cotswold Wedding At Bibury Court

Just over an hours drive from the band’s base in Coventry, Claire and Matt were married at Bibury Court in the Cotswolds. The bride and groom booked the band’s 5-piece lineup which meant we had an added female lead singer ready to belt out Rihanna and Gwen Stefani tracks at request! As the band set the stage, the bride and groom enjoyed drinking and mingling with their wedding guests.

To start the night, the band invited the bride and groom onto the dance floor for their first dance as a married couple. Claire and Matt had chosen Greatest Day by Take That and Stuck In The Middle by Stealers Wheel to be played immediately after.

Guests were soon encouraged to join the happy couple on the dance floor and we kicked off the night with a set list filled with the bride and groom’s favourite tracks including Hey Ya by Outkast, Valerie by Amy Winehouse and Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson (ft. Bruno Mars).

As a surprise to all the guests, Claire and Matt planned a firework show to top off the night. What a fantastic end to the evening!

Congratulations to the newlyweds. Thanks for having The CoverUps as your live wedding band!

5-Piece Wonderland Wedding at Calcot Manor

The CoverUps kicked off 2016 with Susie and Paul’s wedding at the luxurious Cotswolds wedding venue, Calcot Manor! Just under two hours drive from the band’s HQ in Coventry, Calcot Manor stands as a 14th century renovated country house hotel. The interior was pristine yet welcoming and warm- the perfect location for this bride and groom’s winter wedding reception!

The ballroom was decorated with hanging baubles and snowflakes which gave a whimsical wonderland feel to the room. Crazy In Love by Van Morrison began to play as the newlyweds danced their first dance. Soon enough, all guests were invited onto the dance floor and the band got everyone up and dancing to Bruno Mars, The Beatles and Queen just to name a few!

The bride and groom had specifically requested The CoverUps’ 5-piece lineup so we didn’t hesitate to get Christen on the mic! With an added female vocal we were able to include tracks such as California Gurls by Katy Perry, Mercy by Duffy and Shake It Off by Taylor Swift for all the ladies in the room. Fellas, don’t be ashamed. We saw you dancing too!

The saying is true, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” Because even though the band had an extended set list at two and a half hours, it seemed too soon to be playing our last track, Time Of Your Life by Green Day, regardless of the fact it was almost midnight. It’s safe to say the band had an incredible time playing live music for Susie and Paul on their wedding day and we look back on the night with fond memories. Please enjoy a few photos from the night below!

The Band Visit Elmore Court Again For Another Spectacular Wedding!

Elmore Court is fast becoming one of the band’s favourite wedding venues. Less than 70miles from our Coventry home, the wedding venue is perfectly set up and a delight to play. The wonderful lighting and PA set up make our job that bit easier, and the amazing sound proofing mean there are no issue with volume! Trips into the Cotswolds are always fun, but Elmore Court takes it to another level!

5-Piece Fun!

The couple chose to have their first dance recorded. According to our sheet they weren’t 100% sure about which song to have, so choosing to have it recorded meant they could change their mind as late as they liked!

We’d been booked as a 5-piece, and the added female vocal gave us a lot of opportunity for fun in the set. A 5-piece band favourite is Fascination by Alphabeat. Such a wonderful up-beat, happy tune, full of energy and verve always makes the band smile, and the dance floor fill up!

A Band With Free Reign!

The band were given free reign with the live set list, so we got a chance to play our faves throughout the night. Love Machine, Call Me Maybe, Locked Out Of Heaven, Come On Eileen – it’s all great fun to play, and even more fun to dance to it seems!

The night ended with the venue’s strict midnight curfew coming into effect… but fear not! The band had a little trick up our sleeves to give the audience one more song under the radar! Check out our testimonial or the photos below to find out what that was!

A Delightful Night At Elmore Court – The Perfect Live Band Wedding Venue

Once again down in the heart of the Cotswolds, the band arrive at a new wedding venue in good time after cutting through Friday evening traffic. The wedding venue section at Elmore Court was purpose-built and opened late in 2013. Now with a diary filled through to 2016, it is immediately clear why this venue is so popular. The owner himself, a DJ who has performed at high profile events such as Glastonbury, Glade Festival etc, built an excellent in-house PA and lighting rig into this venue as well as designing the entirety of it to be completely soundproof! While these things may not immediately appeal to prospective couples looking for somewhere to celebrate their marriage, they make the world of difference to the entertainers, and besides, the venue in itself is a stunning building.

The CoverUps feat. DJ Chris, The Groom!

So often we’re booked by complete music fanatics. Tonight was one of those occasions! The groom, himself a guitarist, had spent years playing as a DJ at London venues. He took the opportunity during one of our breaks to perform a half hour DJ slot. Armed with only an iPad he wowed the crowd with a varied selection of tracks masterfully mixed. We love these moments; they bring a very personal touch to the evening’s live entertainment. Before long it was time to get the band back on stage and we cracked on with a second set of 80s tunes which filled the dance floor.

An Illuminating Experience

Tonight was great fun for us. As you can see in the photos below, the room looked wonderful and the staging and lighting really helped to set the scene for a great evening of live music. Highlights for us included an impromptu drop into American Pie (by request of one of the groomsmen) and a Welsh accented rendition of Park Life in honour of the South Walian contingent!

Hopefully, we’ll make another trip back to Elmore Court again next year- they do tremendous, gorgeous weddings there! Until then, enjoy our shots from the evening…

The Call Of The Cotswolds

Cotswolds’ Character

As The CoverUps, we have the privilege to travel all over England doing what we love; playing great music and ensuring our client’s special days end on high notes.  As an added bonus we get to see some fabulous places in beautiful parts of the country and The Cotswolds is certainly high on our list of favourites.

Half an hour from Oxford, The Bay Tree Restaurant and Hotel in Burford is a stunning venue for a wedding; this Tudor House has character coming out of its eaves!  The combination of quirky side-rooms and larger dining and dancing areas allows for the simultaneous running of live music, conversation, photo-booths and open bar. Several years ago The CoverUps experienced a similarly distinguished venue from The Cotswold Inns & Hotels group, the Manor Hotel, Moreton-in-the-Marsh. We were welcomed with the same hospitable and professional service and excellent food!

Fireworks

This weekend we had the added pleasure of The CoverUps’ 5-Piece Line-Up fronted by Rachel on vocals. As well as the CoverUps’ usual musical variety of  rock/pop/indie and through-the-ages, this pop-oriented line-up pumped out tunes such as Duffy’s ‘Mercy’, Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’ and (making the most of it being the 4th of July) Katy Perry’s ‘Firework.’ Though there were no real fireworks, we had a crowd-pleasing fire-pit at the end of the garden for everyone to enjoy as well as enough excitement on the dance-floor to make the night go off with a bang!

That Crazy Little Thing Called Love!

A beautifully scenic landscape in rural Cotswolds countryside, Chadlington was the perfect setting for a wedding. Mix that together with a Bride and Groom who know how to take good care of the band, not to mention their guests, and you have the makings of a good show! We were met by a relaxed and welcoming bride who quickly got us sat down to enjoy some of their fine catering – an unexpected crumble and custard dessert ensured we were ready to go!

Crazy Little First Dance

The evening started in style when the bride and groom were cheered on during their first dance to ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ by Queen. It was clear that the guests were up for a good time as soon as we kicked into our first song people joined the dance floor, and it stayed packed throughout our first set.

A Rocking Second Set

A short break allowed us to enjoy more fine food from the evening BBQ which kept our energy up for the second set. The dance moves came out straight away as we started off with ‘Love Machine’ by Girls Aloud. The dancing didn’t let up and the singing got louder as we moved into classics like ‘Living on a Prayer’ and ‘Summer of 69’, and a much demanded encore of ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis saw the Bride and Groom surrounded by their guests as they danced-  ending the night on a high.

For the Coverups team it was time to go home, but as we packed down the party didn’t stop as the DJ cranked up the volume to keep it going till the early hours of the morning!

Another Glorious Cotswolds Wedding (With A Celebrity Connection!)

The Cotswolds represent classic England – beautiful rolling hills, centuries old Cotswold stone buldings, winding roads and green and pleasant land as far as the eye can see – it’s no surprise that so many come to the Cotswolds for their weddings. This time we were in the little village of Cranham, nestled between Cirencester, Cheltenham, Stroud and Cheltenham; an idyllic setting for a wedding.

Pub Grub!

Due to catering restrictions at the marquee, we had a table booked at The Royal William, a local and very fine pub. Preordered food meant allowed us to walk in, eat, and head on – all very slick. The band well fed, we were in great spirits arriving at the venue.

We arrived in plenty of time at the marquee, and due to some unforseen circumstances the wedding was running a little late, meaning we had a great opportunity to enjoy the fabulous views and take a few photos (see below!) – really quite stunning!

Beautiful Day For A Marquee Wedding

The British summer is so unpredictable, you never quite know what to expect. This day couldn’t be more what the couple wished for – glorious sunshine making the most of those spectacular views. With the day running slightly late, we made the most of the handy load in backing the cars right up to the marquee to give us a speedy set up.

The couple had given the band free reign over the set list, giving us the chance to pull out a whole set of classics from the off. From the gentle start of Van Morrison’s Moondance – following directly on from Everything by Michael Buble – to the rousing finale of Summer of 69 into Don’t Look Back In Anger the dance floor remained bustling, the international wedding crowd busting all kinds of shapes!

Farewell To The Cotswolds

This summer hasn’t seen us in the Cotswolds as often as in previous years. It’ll be December before we return (to one of our favourite wedding venues, Barnsley House). Until then, enjoy these photos of our last Cotswolds summer wedding of 2013!

… Oh, and the celebrity connection? Apparently this was the same location as Lily Allen got married last year!

The Band Return To Cheltenham For New Year’s Eve

Hotel Du Vin in Cheltenham has become a regular haunt for the CoverUps on New Year’s Eve the past few years – but this year was something slightly different! There was definitely something in the air, perhaps just the communal excitement of 2012 drawing to a close; with the Olympics and Jubilee year firmly in the memories of everyone there it was about time to see this year out in style!

Exquisite Food

The Hotel Du Vin venues are renowned for their spectacular food; and our sausage and mash this year really hit the mark! Playing primarily as a wedding band, the CoverUps enjoy some wonderful food throughout the wedding season. Each live show is fuelled by a great hot meal, often a taste of the wedding breakfast – so the band are well versed in good food… though, perhaps surprisingly, quantity remains as important as quality; and this sausage and mash hit the spot on both counts!

Lively Live Band

Enough about the food – what about the show?! New Year’s Eve is all about Midnight and as such our performances always start a bit later so we can see the new year in in full flow. The first half was from around 10-11pm – leaving enough time for the guests to finish their food (sorry, food again… perhaps I’m hungry…) and get some drinks in before dancing commenced.

We had great fun throughout the first set. The soft start we usually use for a wedding was out the window and it was party tune after party tune. The 5 piece version of the band (tonight with added keys, guitar and vocals courtesy of Matt of Push Record Studios) gave the band an added versatility, taking the weight of instrumentation from our front-man and giving added interaction to the performance.

Seeing The New Year In In Style

Hotel Du Vin in Cheltenham spare no expense in giving their guests the best party of the year each December 31st.  This year not only did the guests have a great night dancing away to the live band, but they were treated to a live piper too! The band counted down to the New Year with the accuracy of the internet to aid them, at which moment the piper struck up downstairs. He blasted through a great medley of well known Scottish tunes, included an instrumental of Auld Lang Syne – which the band then joined and took the guests into a rousing rendition of the New Year’s classic.

First Party Of The New Year

From the first moments of the New Year the band took the guests through over an hour of lively party classics, from up to the minute tracks like Moves Like Jagger back to awesome night finishers like Hey Jude… via, perhaps slightly surprisingly, Enter Sandman by Metallica! A guest had requested some Metallica during the interval, and it just so happened it works as a marvellous segue from 500 miles – of all tracks! It was probably the high point of the gig – certainly for metal fan Hywel on lead guitar!

Here’s to next year, when with any luck we’ll return to the hotel for more fun! Below are some shots we took at the night!
