As a band based outside of London visiting the nation’s capital is always met with a certain amount of trepidation and excitement – and this week’s wedding was no different. The wedding venue was an exclusive members only club just off the Strand, and we found out ahead of time that the Lord Mayor’s Parade would be taking place earlier in the day. Not only this, but an England Match would be kicking off around the time we were likely to be passing Wembley Stadium… This sort of journey could well meet delays, so we left with hours to spare.
With all this additional preparation we managed to arrive well ahead of time, and found ourselves some parking spaces as close as possible to the venue. On arrival at the venue it became apparent that this load in was going to be hard work! Two flights of stairs between us and the room that we were playing in almost finished us off before we even got started! Check out this video that shows the route in reverse:
The room itself (the Gallery) was a lovely little room off from the main bar and restaurant, and a good size for an intimate dance floor.
The happy couple’s first dance was Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars. It’s a lovely choice for a first dance, though the production on the recording leave us with a big job to bring about a lively rendition. The dance floor flooding towards the end of the song gave us the indication we’d done a good job.
For the rest of the night the dance floor remained busy, and the band had a great time. The young audience lapped up our renditions of Lady Ga, Stevie Wonder and Cee Lo Green and we granted a favourite of ours as their encore – Don’t Look Back in Anger.
A none-too-swift load out meant it was pushing 1:15am before we hit the road – but carried by the appreciation from the guests we set off, and were tucked up by shortly before 4am. Check out the photos from tonight’s show below!
