Tonight’s wedding took our lead singer within an hour of the home of his youth in South Wales. Only a short step outside of Cardiff, the Vale Resort is a spectacular wedding venue. The modern buildings are impeccably decorated, and despite there being more than one wedding taking place, the venue felt like it was all ours!
Long Journey – Great Food
Cardiff is something of a journey from the band’s HQ in Coventry. Fortunately, the bride and groom had arranged bar meals for us on arrival. These really hit the spot and gave us a boost into the impending load in a set up.
The function room at the Vale Resort was ideal. It was a good size room, well designed and easy to get a crisp sound in. Sound check as a 5 piece only too fractionally longer than usual, just checking the balance between the male and female leads.
Disney First Dance
The first dance was the theme from An American Tail, (Feival Goes West) as performed by James Ingram and Linda Rondstadt. As a lovely duet and having male and female vocals on hand it seemed only right to perform it ourselves. The couple’s son joined them as we begun, and the family shared a special moment together on the dance floor.
From the first dance on the dance floor was bustling. Having the bar in the next room can be awkward with people moving in and out of the room, but the first set finished with a rousing rendition of Mr Brightside followed by Sweet Child O’ Mine – great fun.
We had the privilege of being joined by the groom in singing Rule the World – and a great job he did too. It certainly represented a high point of the night, and hopefully a lasting memory for the couple. Other highlights included Sex on Fire (still a huge tune) and Domino by Jessie J (a track it’s great to wheel out with our female vocalists).
Things in the CoverUps camp are getting quieter as wedding season comes to an end – but we’ll be sure to keep you posted about all our goings on, and keep your eyes peeled for some wedding tips and tricks in our blogs over the coming months. Until then here are some photos of tonight’s dance floor.
