Coventry’s Coombe Abbey For An Elegant Wedding

The CoverUps as a band are very familiar with Coombe Abbey. As one of Coventry’s, nay the West Midlands’ busiest venues wedding venues, it’s understandable that the band make regular visits to the wonderful medieval grounds.

On The Record

It’s not uncommon for the band to be asked to play the recording of a song that they’d be happy playing live. While a band’s live performance of a first dance is for many a real highlight of the day, the original recordings of songs can evoke memories in a way that only the original singer’s voice does. We never take offence either way – and it’s always nice to hear John Legend singing his work in the way that only he does!

Up All Night

It was straight from the first dance the band struck into the first live set. With a variety of classics requested by the couple, and a heavy 80s influence the set was packed with dance floor filling songs. Songs by Soft Cell and the Human league hadn’t made appearances in recent months, so it was lovely to break them out for such an appreciative audience!

On Top Of The World

Playing as a live wedding band is awesome – we get to see people at their very best! The happiest day of their lives, with all their friends and family around them: playing a euphoric set finisher they’ll remember in years to come is just a wonderful feeling.

We’re really excited for Caroling and Tom, and really hoping they have a wonderful first year of married life!

Steve and Rebekah’s Private Wedding At Norwood Park

Just twenty minutes from Nottingham city centre hides the East Midland’s most romantic, ancient wedding venue, Norwood Park. As a period home closed to the public, the land allows a peaceful private location for any wedding party looking for serene privacy to fully enjoy their time away, uninterrupted.

An Acoustic Set To Suit

A slightly different set up to the usual, the band arrived in the early afternoon to set up for an acoustic set which was performed over the wedding breakfast. As the guests wined and dined, the band performed a set of low-key background songs to create a relaxed dinner atmosphere.
Once the evening commenced we took notice of the bride and groom and their guests enjoying the chilled music more than the usual favourited dance tunes. Being a smaller crowd, they were quite happy to listen and enjoy watching us play while they chatted and swayed to the music. Though it was a less extreme dance floor than what’s usually the norm for the band, the guests enjoyed themselves all the same- as did we!

A Function Band’s Success

A few highlights of the night included a pizza oven for the evening buffet, a cut out board of Sir Bruce Forsyth and enjoying a waterfront view from the house. We were reminded of a valuable key to being a successful function band; take song requests before the wedding day and adjust accordingly on the night to ensure everyone is having a great time. The work beforehand certainly pays off. With a particularly mellow crowd on this night, we pulled back the Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars and added a few more subtle tracks from Aha, The Beatles and Bryan Adams. The evening flowed seamlessly!
A big congratulations goes out to Steve and Rebekah! Thank you for booking The CoverUps to provide live music on your special day. Enjoy a few memories from the night below…

Derby Bound For A Farm-Lovin’ Wedding

For this September wedding the band headed up North from their Coventry base for Ed and Emily’s wedding reception at Lumb House Farm.

A new venue for The CoverUps, Lumb House Farm provided a country chic experience for the bride and groom’s evening celebration. This organic farm-loving venue has been a running wedding venue for the past 30 years. With function and music room facilities and conference catering abilities on top of their wedding coordination, they are quickly becoming one of Derbyshire’s most-loved wedding destinations.

After a meal of sea bass provided by the catering outdoors the band set up our gear and swiftly invited the bride and groom to the dance floor. The band then started the night by performing a live cover of How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding for the couple’s first dance.

In the run up to their wedding, Ed and Emily sent through a list of The CoverUps repertoire with their requested songs highlighted and the songs they were less keen on crossed out. It made for an effortless pull together of their set list that we were confident they would love.  The night proceeded with a raging dance floor and the best of 80s and 90s hits. Music mattered to this bride and groom which we couldn’t respect more!

Congratulations to Ed and Emily! On behalf of the band, it was a privilege to play for your wedding reception and we wish you the very best on your journey together as husband and wife!

40th Wedding Anniversary At Ettington Park

Ettington Park, in the heart of Warwickshire sits in familiar territory for the band, just beyond Warwick, Leamington Spa and Stratford-Upon-Avon. A regular haunt for the CoverUps, the band always get a warm welcome at Ettington Park. And to everyone’s relief, the party had exclusive use of the hotel, meaning the band were spared the stairs, lifts and corridors to the venue’s Long Gallery!

Get Your Ruby Dancing Shoes On!

Without the same level of formality, it can take a few songs to draw people to the dance floor at parties… But not so with this group! Right from the off, (Marry You, Bruno Mars) the dance floor was bustling. The multigenerational crowd all flocking to the dance floor together.

From The Kinks To The Killers

A key part of being in a live party band is making sure that everyone’s catered for. Even with over a decade of experience playing for all kids of occasions, from weddings, sweet 16s, ski resorts and product launches, the band still raise a smile at the way music, both modern and classic brings people together, both young and old. This night showed this as clearly as any party with songs from Stevie Wonder to Walk The Moon all going down brilliantly.

Enjoy these photos of the night, and hopefully we’ll be back for the Sapphire, Gold or even Diamond wedding anniversaries!
