A Supermassive Night At Vinopolis, London

A trip in to London is a regular thing for us at the CoverUps. While the nation’s capital has its share of function bands, they sometimes need to draft in something special. For a bunch of relative geeks like this band, playing the Christmas party of a computer games firm was a pretty good fit!

Ahead Of Time

Is very often the case with functions that timings slip over the course of the event… Though usually the timings slide later! This night we were told shortly before our arrival that things were running ahead of time. Fortunately, despite this, we were able to set up and soundcheck before the guests arrived thanks to the judicious use of technology (digital desks with remote control are wonderful things!) and we swiftly cleared cases and got out of the way!

A Chef Kerfuffle

At a number of moments during the meal the guests were treated to a visit from the chef. Unfortunately, it was because a waiter wasn’t quite doing his job properly, and some violence occurred…

This, of course, was all part of the game. The chef and waiter were both part of an amusing dinner entertainment as part of the day’s event – son police were not called, despite the brandishing of knives!

 A Supermassive Night

And so it was our turn to entertain – and much fun was had! Our energetic start began bringing people to the dancefloor and in time the whole place was alive. Sometimes it’s more about those off the dancefloor, and tonight we have necks craned from the scaletrix and roulette tables to watch the show! Suffice to say a fun night was had by all, us included! Here’s to the next trip to London (and maybe Vinopolis)!

Wedding At Coventry’s Guildhall

Coventry’s Guildhall is an amazing reminder of what sort of architecture there used to be in this industrial town. At nearly 700 years old, St. Mary’s Guildhall a wonderful historical building and a spectacular venue for a wedding reception. As a band, the stage makes an ideal performance space, and while in medieval times they didn’t consider access for amps and drums and the like, the four band members made relatively short work of the load in!

International Coventry Wedding Band!

Coventry weddings are a real boon for any wedding band based in the West Midlands, but even more so for the band being based in Coventry ourselves. Connections into the city are great, and even the city’s one-way system isn’t too confusing!

Saying that, for the wedding congregation themselves, who hailed from across the globe it wasn’t quite such a familiar surrounding. Having played ourselves for many international audiences over the years, we’re well versed in putting together a set list classic enough to appeal across the continents.

First Dance Jazz

The first dance was a recorded Jazz Suite – and a lovely one it was too. Short of booking the Dave Arch Band from Strictly, there will always be songs that don’t work with a particular lineup and in that situation, it’s great to use a recording.

From there on, things got decidedly more live! Before we began, a school age young lady asked if we played any Pharell Williams. She had, it transpired, learned a dance to Happy, and was hoping to perform it to the audience. We checked when she was likely to leave (children are usually on their way to bed before the first set is over) and brought Happy in to finish off her night. The look on her face was a picture and proud parents looked on and even joined in at times!

As you can see from the photos while the hall can accommodate larger numbers, the audience and band together made a great night. Lots of fun!

50th Birthday Party in Downton Abbey’s Very Own!

This gig was definitely one to remember! Highclere Castle, home to TV’s very own Downton Abbey was a spectacular venue for such a unique evening of celebration.

Around the World in 80 Days

The theme for the evening was Around the World in 80 days – a great choice! The guest’s attire and the venue’s decorations reached a new level! As we arrived at the venue, not only were we greeted by picturesque sights of the up-lit castle and the beautiful grounds, but leading up the entrance were life-size props of camel and elephants lining a red carpet through the door. If the entrance wasn’t enough, there was definitely more to come!

Surprise!

We set-up our equipment while the guests were enjoying their 3 course dinner so that our arrival was kept a secret. Immediately after the party sang “Happy Birthday” to Ed, we began our first song and surprised all of the guests! Our element of surprise really gave the evening a boost of excitement and kicked off the night with a bang. There was definitely a party atmosphere in the air!

We had a blast performing for Ed’s 50th and so enjoyed being able to experience such a historical place. Check out the photos in the gallery for a small glimpse into a great evening!
