Yet Another Excellent Wedding at the Tythe Barn, Bicester

I’ve lost count, but this must be the 3rd or 4th time this year that the band has made the trip into the depths of Oxfordshire to the Tythe Barn! Every time we’re reminded what a great venue it is. We are so well looked after there and every time the Bride and Groom are chuffed to bits with the service they’ve had for their wedding.

Lively, Upbeat Start!

Our live entertainment part of the wedding tonight kicked off with the couple’s first dance: I Want to Hold Your Hand. This is a Beatles track that had until now evaded our repertoire, and it was lovely to have a good excuse to learn it! A fine choice, with an up tempo feel leaving the bride and groom free to just cut loose on the dance floor.

I couldn’t pick a highlight from tonight’s wedding. The dance floor remained packed through each of the 40 minute sets, and there was a great vibe all night. Below are a few photos we took.

It is worth noting that tonight’s good was from there kitchen of Jamie Oliver. While the Tythe Barn have never been slouches on the food front, there was something a little special about the food we were given before the show. A massive thank you to the caterers for affording us that delightful meal!

With the clocks now back an hour it feels almost like an early finish. While the BBC would probably rather I used this hour for internet support, I think it’s still time for bed!

An Elegant, Alternative Wedding At Ettington Park

Tonight’s couple were not quite what we’d imagined during our communications. Their particular, alternative musical preferences, loving as they do the Indie-stylings (and proper indie), we had imagined a slightly off the wall couple. Suffice to say they were a delightful, kookie pair with great taste!

Their first dance was Lovesong by the Cure. A lovely choice, giving us an excuse to learn their jangly guitar riffs and quirky synth lines. It’s an interesting choice too as Adéle recently covered the track; I expect to see that version cropping up in the near future!

The load in and out at Ettington Park really is the only thorn in the side of this wonderful venue. We’re quite used to it now, having played there a number of times, but it does take some effort! Otherwise, the staff there have looked after us excellently, and the whole wedding went without a hitch (except the obvious, and necessary “hitch”!).

Really looking forward to playing at more weddings in the future at Ettington Park. Here are a few photos taken tonight. Enjoy!

From Dinner to Dancing – A Great Wedding Day at The Greenway, Cheltenham

Today was an early start for our CoverUps front man. The couple had booked an afternoon acoustic set to have over dinner. Live music over dinner is sometimes seen as something of an extravagance, or afterthought. We, however, love playing live sets over dinner as it gives a great opportunity to enjoy the more chilled out end of the spectrum – while enjoying your food!

Weddings at the Greenway are organized by Jane Riddell of Planned for Perfection Wedding and Event Management. She’s great at making sure that, while everything’s planned perfectly from the outset, it runs as such on the day. She met us at the venue, liased with the staff to make sure everything was sorted out. It’s always handy to have that extra pair of hands, where a Maitre D’ may be occupied with the hands on running of the day, Jane’s great at keeping her eye on the plan and making sure things run to it!

So, the evening reception begun exactly as planned, the cutting of the cake followed by the bride and groom’s first dance… and then dancing! The first dance was our take on Adele’s rendition of Make You Feel My Love, written by Bob Dylan. It’s a lovely choice, and our paired down piano version gave the happy couple a great backdrop for this intimate moment.

It’s hard to say where the highlights of today were… During the afternoon acoustic set the bride had a few teary-eye’d moments, which makes it all feel worth while. The evening reception came to a climax with Hey Jude – a track that’s only begun making regular outings this season. We’re starting to wonder why now, with so many crowds going crazy for the “Na na na na” section at the end!

A Summery Cotswold Wedding… In October!

Today’s wedding was at the end of a spectacular week for English weather, and today capped it off! With record breaking temperatures, the couple could barely have been happier. A great start!

Venue staff were excellent, showing us to an area we could sit while speeches finished. As is par for the course, the schedule slipped by around 30 mins. However, this worked well, as guests enjoyed the grounds at Stonehouse Court while we set up- an unexpected bonus!

Set-up went swiftly and smoothly, Jo Webb, guitarist and sound engineer extraordinaire tweaking the levels for a brilliant live gig sound. The sound limiter, despite being relatively stringent, caused no issues tonight; with a comfortable level for playing and listening achieved without a problem.

Tonights evening highlights included Mr Brightside and Livin’ on a Prayer. The vocals in the chorus of the Bon Jovi track have been sitting really nicely of late; and this combined with a lovely relaxed atmosphere made for as superb feeling on the dance floor.

The Bride and Groom tonight have been a delight to work with- extremely personable, and understandably pleased with the way the whole day had gone. It’s always a privilege knowing that you’ll be part of the memories of the a couple’s big day, and we wish them all the best in the months and years ahead.
